In 2010, Genna received a scholarship to attend the Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan.
This past November, Genna’s poem, one of 58,151, was published by Central Connecticut State University’s Helix Literary Magazine. Genna is a member of Helix and was also chosen to be one of an exclusive few to get a free trip and stay in Chicago to participate in the Association of Writers & Writing Programs.

The plaque is 8 ft wide by 4 ft tall and it sure does give a shocking comparison to the size of the wall!

For the hip hop dance party, Brooks taught the students different freestyle hip hop and break dance moves, all the while building their skills to create a dance routine.

Thankfully, we had perfectly crisp fall weather to have Cassandra Purdy’s mobile, wood- fired pizza oven pizza station outside. The students rolled out their own pizza dough and chose from various local and organic vegetarian toppings to make pizzas uniquely their own. Cassandra also taught the kids about the traditional method of making pizza.

A year ago it was just an idea, but thanks to the tremendous support and help from student artists, parents, and our generous funders, we were able to accomplish our goal.
Matt Wood’s artistic guidance and dedication to the project is something without which creating a mural of this scale and depth would have been impossible.  The endless hours that Matt spent planning, designing, and working on the mural is a gift to all of us.  We cannot thank him, and his wife Joanna, enough for their dedication and exceptional generosity.

On Sunday recipients of ASAP’s 2011 Summer Grant Scholarships demonstrated how their summer educational experiences have helped develop their already remarkable talents in music, theater, dance, and visual arts.

Following the presentations was a reception and attendees were invited to the WAA’s Project Room to see the ASAP Young Artists Show.

The Young Artists Show will be featured in the WAA’s Project Room throughout the month of October!
